Retail Life Episode 7

Why don’t people realize when they smell bad?

And I’m not just talking about body odor. I mean when they smell like they rolled around on the floor with their wet dog while their cat was peeing on top of them. Gross, I know, and I wish I could say I’ve only had to smell that once. But no.

Take a shower guys. Wear deodorant. Perfume. Something. Anything.

There is nothing worse than trying to ring someone up and not being able to breath because of their stench. And they’re always the ones that want to lean onto the counter to point at which cigarettes they want or because they’re too tired to stand up straight. They always want to get all in your personal space to ask a question. And the entire time I’m trying my best not to gag.

They’re always a regular customer too, so it’s not just a one time thing. I’m going to see them again. And I have to prepare myself as they walk up to the register to check out. Deep breaths of fresh air before a quick scan, bag, scan, bag, scan, bag, total, step back for fresh air.

The lady who buys the giant bag of cat food once a week.

Old man that comes in to pay his phone bill.

Teenage boy that buys snacks with a handful of change.

Drunk lady that comes in for her cigarillos.

Girl that repeatedly asks me for a job.

Please. I’m begging you. Soap. Deodorant. Laundry detergent. We sell all of these things. I’ve never seen you buy them. Why? Why don’t you clean yourself???
