On Hashish AKA The Family Trip

This wasn’t our first rodeo. We ground it up, put it in orange juice and chugged it down.

Blech.

We made ugly faces and got something else to drink, then sat down to wait.

Our night began with Netflix, but once the colors started to run – when the sounds made twists and turns before they got to our ears – we switched to YouTube.

Endless giggling.

We didn’t feel time passing, and yet the night wore on.

As we felt like we were coming down, we dragged chairs outside to look at the stars. We watched the sky and saw more than just glimmers of light. We could see to the end of the universe and back again. An endless stretch of imagination. It had texture. It had a pulse.

It was amazing.

My bedsheets felt so soft that night it was unreal. I made snow angels as I watched the ceiling move around and change shape. Every word that crossed my mind seemed different and more alive than before. Colors shone through and illuminated ideas. I wanted to write them all.

In the end, I went to sleep. In the morning, I felt brand new.
